Good Healthy Wholesome Oats OR Cheapskate Rip-Off Cereals? What’s Your Choice?

By Janet Vargas - Independent Natural Health Research 30+ Yrs

Like someone so rightly said: Oats are Naturally Processed, Oats are OATS. 100% No Preservatives, No Additives, No Colourings. They are Uncomplicated REAL Food that Nourishes with “NO Extras” Frugal Food, Cheap to Buy!

And you can add whatever you like – you know what’s in there.

So if you’re going to “Cut things on the Budget” don’t downsize on Healthy Nutritious Meals, cut out those Sugar Laden and Artificially Coloured Ultra-Processed devitalised “Cereals” those Con Artists charge you the Earth for instead.

What an Absolute RIP-OFF and you’re taking them home, one after the other, Friends? And half the time, it’s because you weren’t brought up with OATS wonderful Oats OR your Kids have been Targeted by the Cunning guise of those Shrewd Manufacturers. Yes, they deliberately target your Kids with those endless Ads (so many rounds a day/evening) because they Know they will “Nag You” until they get what they want!

Don’t these Cereals cost a fortune Now? And there’s all manner of Packets for the Grown Ups to be irresistibly drawn to as well – specialty lines with “Nut Clusters” in them, and all the rest of it:)

With a Price to Match. But they’re still being CHEAPSKATES because you can almost betcha the more Expensive they are to Buy, the Cheaper they are to Make!

How much Money do Cereal Brands spend on all that Advertising, I wonder?

Well as expected, I found out this Information on a Statistics Website STATISTA.COM for you and they say the following:

Global advertising expenditure of Kellogg's 2010-2022

In 2022, the Kellogg Company spent around 756 million U.S. dollars on advertising. Kellogg's is a Multinational consumer goods company with a focus (mostly) on breakfast cereals.

Kellogg Co. was one of the largest food and beverage companies in North America: with over 8.3 billion U.S. dollars in sales. In 2021, Kellogg’s had a brand value of over six and a half billion U.S. dollars.

Companies in North America, especially in the United States, spend significant amounts of their capital on TV Advertising for their brands. In North America, some 64.5 billion U.S. dollars are spent annually on TV advertising.

Obviously, they figure it’s really worth the Investment for such Commercial Extravaganzas?
Sure, so they can reap a BONANZA of PROFITS week after week.

Friends, why do we continue to Feed these Conglomerates?
Dancing to their Music every time they say Buy?

I will give you one good reason. Apart from the Neurolinguistic Programming in those TV Commercials, they have highly skilled Flavourists working for them, whose work is to add totally Irresistible Flavours (artificial of-course) to their highly Processed Grains etc so once you Try a Packet, you keep Buying More. Lots More!

This is referred to as the BLISS POINT and it’s Very Addictive. The Arnott's biscuits Company and Potato Chips Companies and other “Irresistible Snacks and Foods” Companies do the same thing – competing with each-other for Your Dollars. Even the “Natural Flavour” you see listed on many Labels is actually Synthetic. Made legal by a technical loophole, so I tread even more cautiously with Food Products since I found that out.

Believe it or not, they work with Lots of Chemicals (made from ‘natural’ substances) until they get the Taste Factor just right and you can’t leave their Cereals, Biscuits, Snacks whatever alone, and the Kids go Crazy in the Supermarkets for Products on the Shelves. It’s common now, to see many Parents pack their trolleys with different packets of Cereal and Paying the Prices. Sometimes to have “Peace” with the Kids, is it not?

Even the few so-called Vitamins they add to make their Products sound “Healthy” are guess what? More Chemicals (synthetic) they are dirt cheap and bad for your Health too!

What's their Profit Margin, to make it worth all those Advertisements?

Not Surprisingly, the Breakfast Cereal Industry has High-Profit Margins of about
40-45% and a significant presence in many markets, reaching up to 90% penetration (most people have Cereals for Breakfast right?)

The Profit, by the way, is AFTER the Commercials, so that’s another reason why I call them Cheapskates – NO Nutrition in there – it’s prefabricated LIES.

But they must be ORGANIC so they are not laden with Pesticides and Toxic RoundUp before they are Harvested. Fortunately, there are 5 Brands I can recommend to you. Unlike the USA, Australia have LOTS of Organic Oats at reasonable Prices! ALDI have plenty of 500g packets on hand; Woolworths have them in their MACRO Range 500g; COLES have the Red Tractor brand 1 Kg Packets – ALL their Oats are actually Naturally Grown (Organic) not just the ones with Certified on the packet; AMAZON sell a very good brand Organic Oats by a company called Honest To Goodness whose trade mark is “No Nasties Added” on all their Products 700g & 4 Kg Packets.

More to say about them later.

You can also Bulk Buy 5 & 20kg from Whispering Pines Organics HERE
They also grow/stock Oat Groats and Heritage Wheat Grain that is much Healthier than Modern Wheat.
And at certain times of the year, they have Spelt Flour (unhybridized wheat) Nutritious and Khorasan (unhybridized wheat) Tasty and Nutritious - sometimes baked as gourmet Bread (very expensive)

A lot of people like to make hot Creamy Porridge in the cold months and Muesli in the warm weather.

Yes, they lightly toast their own combinations of Ingredients on a tray in a very Low Oven Setting OR place the Ingredients in a Dehydrator. A very good one to purchase is the EZIDRI. It’s 5 Levels High and you can buy 3 more levels (round trays) to make it 8 High for Super Big Batches should you wish to do so. They’re really Fun to Use.

You can make your own Muesli Bars as well, and Homemade Natural Snacks – Delicious! And you know everything that goes in them:) I will let you know my Special Recipe for Crunchy Homemade Muesli you don’t have to Toast, after I share some really good details about HEALTHY OATS if you like?

Instead of devitalized Grains with a few Synthetic Vitamins that are actually bad for your health, you have Natural Vitamins and Minerals and Antioxidants that can Benefit your Health.

Phosphorus, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Copper, selenium, manganese, Folate, betaine, choline, sulphur containing amino acids (protein) vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B5, vitamin B6; Some calcium, potassium, biotin, choline and vitamin B3.

The nutrient composition of oats is well-balanced. They are a good source of carbs and fiber, including the fiber Beta-Glucan.

Oats are also a good source of high quality Protein with a good balance of Essential Amino Acids.

Oats are loaded with important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Whole oats are high in antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds called polyphenols. Most notable is a unique group of antioxidants called avenanthramides, which are almost solely found in oats.

Science Direct Says: Consumption of avenanthramides extracted from oats reduces weight gain, oxidative stress, inflammation and regulates intestinal microflora.

Beta-glucan and avenanthramides improve the immune system and eliminate harmful substances from the body.

Make Sure to Buy Organic Rolled Oats for Nutritional Value.
Instant Oats has Less Nutrients and is often loaded with sugar and sodium.

Improves Immunity; Weight Reduction; may improve Blood Sugar; good for your Heart; helps to keep you regular; controls Blood Sugar Spikes; good for Digestive System; helps with Blood Pressure and Stress; Enhances Immunity; Lowers Cholesterol; helps to prevent some Cancers and Asthma in little Children; improves quality of Sleep.

3 - 4 parts Rolled Oats, 1-2 parts Raw Buckwheat. A sprinkle of these: Natural Cranberries, Natural Sultanas, Barberries, Pumpkin Seeds, Coconut Shavings, Almond Milk; Dash of Genuine Maple Syrup. Sometimes Greek Yogurt and Blueberries from freezer.

I started making mine a week ago and would not bother buying it again.
There is no more the necessity to buy Plastic Bottles of Dairy Milk or Tetra Paks of Non-dairy Milk, lined with Aluminum (bad for brain, causes Alzheimer's) and Polyethylene (made from Petro-Chemicals)
I have my own Glass Milk Bottles from Amazon and I purchase my own Insecticide-Free Almonds at a good price Online. I saw 2-3 short Videos on YouTube - it is easier than I thought. Much easier, quite simple.
