YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT - IT'S ACTUALLY A DUMB IDEA, AND PROVEN TO BE SO RISKY FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE REGRETS. FIRSTLY BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, JUST LIKE THE CARNIVORE DIET, INVENTERS OF THOSE HAVE SO MESSED AROUND WITH THE BASIC DIETARY REQUIREMENTS FOR EVERYONE'S FOOD INTAKE, WHICH IS A BALANCE OF HEALTHY PROTEINS, HEALTHY FATS and HEALTHY COMPLEX CARBS (not cheap nasty refined carbs and junk foods) KETO and CARNAVORE GO TO EXTREMES TO CORRECT POOR FOOD CHOICES and EATING HABITS, BUT AT THE SAME TIME VIOLATE OUR NEED FOR A BALANCED DIET - OUR BODY FUNCTIONS BEST ON (A SENSIBLE REAL FOOD DIET. SO INSTEAD OF DEFENDING OR PROMOTING KETO LIKE SOME ADVOCATES DO (which is baffling indeed and defies commonsense) I WILL GIVE YOU REASONS TO QUESTION AGUMENTS FOR KETO (Keto Keto, Keto Keto Brainwashing) Daaah! How do they get it so Wrong? IT'S BEYOND ME!!!!

Seriously - Forget Dodgy Keto!

Are high-protein diets safe for weight loss?
In general, high-protein diets help with short-term weight loss by making you feel fuller. But if you follow a high-protein diet for a long time, there are some health issues that may come up. And researchers are still studying the long-term risks of high-protein diets that limit carbohydrates.
A high-protein diet may worsen how well a kidney works in people with kidney disease. This can happen because the body may not be able to get rid of all the waste products of protein that's broken down. (Mayo Clinic)
Protein Intake and Kidney Damage
The kidneys are remarkable organs that filter waste compounds, excess nutrients and liquids out of the bloodstream, producing urine.
Some say that your kidneys need to work hard to clear the metabolites of protein from your body, leading to increased strain on the kidneys.
Adding some more protein to your diet may increase their workload a little, but this increase is quite insignificant compared to the immense amount of work your kidneys already do.
About 20% of the blood your heart pumps through your body goes to the kidneys. In an adult, the kidneys may filter around 48 gallons (180 liters) of blood every single day.
But High protein intake may cause harm in people with diagnosed kidney disease. (Healthline)
Supposing your body has a Pre-disposition to a Kidney Disorder or your Kidneys are not particularly strong? What then? That possibility makes accepting a Keto Diet pretty Risky, does it not? Some people don't have enough Protein in their Diet but Keto is Extreme. (Janet)
We need to consume enough protein for certain body processes to occur.
However, if we eat more than we need, the excess protein will be broken down and used for energy.
Even though a relatively high protein intake is healthy and safe, eating massive amounts of protein is unnatural and may cause harm.
Exactly how much protein is harmful is unclear and varies between people. (Healthline)

Sensible Arguments Against Keto
AI Overview
Arguments against the ketogenic (keto) diet centre on its extreme restriction, potential long-term health risks, and common side effects. Critics cite increased LDL cholesterol, potential kidney issues, and nutrient deficiencies due to low fiber and fruit intake. It is often criticized for being hard to sustain, causing "Keto Flu," and promoting high saturated fat intake. (Vivo Life)
Key arguments against the ketogenic diet include:
- Nutrient Deficiencies & Fiber Loss: Strict Elimination of many Fruits, Vegetables, and Grains can lead to Deficiencies in Fiber, Vitamins, and Minerals. Low Fiber Intake can also Negatively Impact Gut Health.
- Kidney and Liver Strain: Increased Fat and Protein Metabolism can put strain on the Kidneys and Liver, with potential for Kidney Stones. (which are No Joy-Ride Janet)
- The "Keto Flu" & Initial Side Effects: As the body adapts to burning Much Fat, people often experience fatigue, dizziness, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.
- Sustainability and Mental Health: The Diet is Highly Restrictive, which can lead to Social Isolation, Food Obsession, and potential Disordered Eating Behaviors.
- Sustainability & Long-Term Data: Long-Term Studies are Lacking, making the Long-Term Impact on Overall Health uncertain. (That makes it a gamble, doesn't it? Experiments often go wrong. Janet)
- Not Suitable for All: Keto is Not advised for people with pre-existing conditions involving their Pancreas, Gallbladder, or Thyroid, or those with Diabetes on specific Medications due to severe Hypoglycemia risks. (Vivo Life)

While the Ketogenic (Keto) Kiet is popular for rapid short-term weight loss and managing specific conditions like Drug-Resistant Epilepsy, many Health Experts and Researchers raise Significant Arguments against its Long-Term use for the general population. (Northwestern Medicine)
1. Sustainability and Long-Term Efficacy
- Difficulty of Maintenance: The keto diet is extremely restrictive, requiring you to get 70–75% of your calories from fat and fewer than 50 grams of carbs per day. This "all or nothing" nature makes it hard to maintain in social settings or over long periods.
- Weight Regain: Many studies show that while Initial weight loss is fast, much of it is Water Weight from Glycogen Depletion. Once the Diet is stopped, people often Regain at least Half of the weight they lost, sometimes more.
- No Long-Term Advantage: Research suggests that after 12–24 months, the Weight Loss and Metabolic Benefits of Keto are not significantly better than those of other Balanced, Calorie-Restricted Diets. (Northwestern Medicine)
2. Physical and Nutritional Risks
- Nutrient Deficiencies: By eliminating entire food groups like whole grains, legumes, and most fruits, you risk missing essential vitamins (B, C, D, E), minerals (magnesium, potassium, selenium), and fiber.
- Heart Health Concerns: Excessive Intake of Saturated Fats from red meat, butter, and cheese can raise a Risk of Heart Disease and Stroke. (a Sensible Intake of Beef, Butter and Healthy Cheeses is OK. Not so with EXCESS. Janet)
- Kidney and Bone Issues: Extreme Protein and Fat Intake can Lead to Acidic Urine, increasing the Risk of Kidney Stones. Some Research also links the Diet to decreased bone mineral density and higher markers of bone breakdown.
- The "Keto Flu": Transitioning into Ketosis often causes Temporary but Unpleasant Symptoms like headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and irritability. (National Institutes of Health)
3. Medical Contraindications
- Diabetes Risks: For those with type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, the diet significantly increases the risk of severe Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia) and potentially life-threatening Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA).
- Specific Conditions: The diet is generally discouraged for individuals with Kidney Disease, Liver Failure, Pancreatitis, or GB Gallbladder Issues, as these organs are responsible for Metabolizing the Super High Fat and Protein Loads. (National Institutes of Health)
4. Psychological and Lifestyle Impacts
- Disordered Eating: The strict tracking of Macronutrients can lead to Psychological Distress, shame, and a cycle of Restriction and Bingeing.
- Social Isolation: Difficulty finding Keto-Friendly Options at Restaurants or Social Gatherings can Negatively Affect a person's Social Life and Mental Well-Being. (National Institutes of Health)

So I ask you, why should we take these Advocates seriously at the Risk of Other Serious Health Problems?
Just the fact that the fundamental difference that the Keto Diet is to Keep your Body in an Unnatural State to Maintain it's Objectives should be Worrying Indeed because it Violates the Way Our Body is Meant to Function. Plus the Fact that a Keto Diet is Extremely hard to Adhere to. Plus the Fact that Many People report that they feel Really Sick when they go onto it, which is proof in itself their Body is Protesting to this Dietary Practice that is Not Normal OR Sane to undertake in the first place.
Count me Out! And if you are Wise, you will say the Same.
I encourage you to consider a Balanced REAL FOOD DIET that simply means to ditch all the Junk Food and Processed Foods and Keep to Healthy Proteins.....Healthy Fats......and......Healthy Complex Carbohydrates. Don't skip Healthy Veggies and don't skip Healthy Fruits. Ditch the so-called "Healthy" Oils and Opt for the Real Healthy Oils: Genuine Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Genuine Avocado Oil (not corrupted by cheapskates) Cold Pressed Coconut Oil (that keeps the Islanders Healthy) and Organic or Grass-Fed Butter (our great grandparents had NO Problem with).
It's the Modern Diet that makes people Overweight and Sick, not Decent Carbs (Complex Carbs - Healthy Ones) like those which are promoted on the Diabetic Diet (a Friend had good sensible Weight-loss results who commenced the Diet for Overall Good Health - she is not Diabetic) and strictly AVOID Canola (the great Con-Ola) so-called Veggie Oils (they have Nothing to do with Veggies - it's just a psychological Sales Spin) Yes Avoid ALL the Cheap Nasty Seed Oils that are NOT what they're Claimed to be. They are Not Heart-Healthy and they are Not Weight-Friendly. Facts are they have been proven to be the Opposite.
The Mediterranean Diet is also a Very Good Choice. What you could consider is having More Protein with one of those Diets towards Weight-loss, but please Avoid Excess Protein intake, don't go silly with it.
Also please realise this and remember, we have been brainwashed over decades (possibly all our lives) to believe that "Fat is Bad - Especially Saturated Fats" is absolutely Incorrect. It's an absolute Fallacy because True Research reveals that "We Need Fats to Reduce Fat" including some Saturated Fat. It's been since the Misleading Propaganda about Fats become widespread and "Low Fat, No Fat" Diets were promoted that so many people have problems with Overweight. We (the Public) have been "Sold on Lies"..........that's the Sad Reality of Misinformation because Our Brain Cells, Nerve Cells and Heart Need Fat to Function Well, but don't think that means having Excess Fats like people on Keto have. OK?
An Extra Tip Here: Cane Sugar DOES put on Weight, as does Fruit Juice (due to virtually concentrated Fructose) a Fresh Fruit is much better because it has the Fibre intact, to help protect us from Insulin Spikes that cause Weight Gain. Watch also especially for HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) that is Notorious for putting on Weight, as does Dextrose and Maltodextrose - 3 Main Villains added to so many Food Products. I have also established from much Research that ALL Sweeteners are 10 Times Worse than Sugar (so to speak) rather than Safer Options they are made out to be AND Hidden Culprits of WEIGHT GAIN.
Rather, stay with Sensible Fresh and Frozen Fruits in Moderation, some Pure Maple Syrup or Raw Honey in Moderation. Be it known that Stevia and Xylitol have been found to cause serious Health Issues, as does so-called safe Erythritol which was deliberately marketed to Organic Food and Beverage Companies. They did not do due diligence on the Information that was given them. Be it also known that "No Calorie Sweeteners" (known as Sugar-Alcohols) create a False sense of Appetite, making you want to Eat More because your Body misses that "fullness Signal" that Calories are designed to give you. So Calories do have a good role, you could say:)
Lesson Here: Never look to Manufacturers for Nutrition and Health Advice.
Clearly Speaking, that is Not a Smart Idea.
Truly Folks, it would make you Cringe, if you knew how All those Oils are Made: Canola, Sunflower, SOY, Safflower, Rice Bran and Grapeseed Oils are ALL "Bad, Bad, Bad......." for Our Weight, Health, Eyes, Brain, Liver etc They are based on False Misleading advice by Rogue Manufacturers who should be seen as the Criminals they are, producing such TOXIC Industrial Oils which are absolutely Foreign to Our Body (it doesn't recognise them - therefore they are Bad for your Immune System too) and mind you, my Latest Research reveals Obesity was an Unheard of before they were INVENTED.
You should also know that Ancel Keys who came up with the Cholesterol Theory and Scare Campaign that exists to this day, was based on FLAWED SCIENCE and Dishonesty of a Greedy Little Man who saw an Opportunity to Profit in a Big Way like every other Super Greedy Money Monger in our world Today.
So there you have Lots of Good Health Tips for Sensible Weight-Loss in a Nutritious Way, so you don't have to Opt for Fad Diets, including "KETO".........how good is that?
Now you have some Good Tools (Information to work with) Go for it!
All the best to you Friends

Thank you Janet, this is a really good find for me. It's like everyone is going Keto and it doesn't sound right to me, yet even Dr Eric Berg promotes it. I watch his videos sometimes on YouTube but I can't go along with that. I like your good common sense approach to things in some of your . At last someone agrees with me. It's pretty crazy out there. I am bookmarking your website because I will surely be back here!
Thank You for your comments Debbie. Yes, it's beyond me how some professionals are promoting that Diet. To me, it defies everything I've learnt in 36 Years of Research from early days to present.
You mentioned Eric Berg. I watch his Videos quite often for my Research. To me, his Knowledge is Brilliant, but his decision to promote Keto is not really Smart. I consider the Diet to be So Unbalanced, So Unhealthy. It is especially baffling why someone like Eric endorses it. My mind spins, every time I think of him doing that because he has a lot of Commonsense.
We sometimes have to say to ourselves "Though many follow, still I won't follow" and rule a line of demarcation. Yes, it's really sad, the way he approves of that Nonsense. I still have much respect for Most of his work.
