According to Medical Xpress, researchers Kade Paterson and Rana Hinman discuss two clinical trials published in Annals of Internal Medicine.

The most recent study published in Annals of Internal Medicine (1) followed 120 people with hip osteoarthritis.

 Participants wore either flat, flexible shoes or stable, supportive shoes for six months.

The researchers found no meaningful difference in pain reduction between the two groups.

However, a 2021 study published in Annals of Internal Medicine (2) involving 164 people with knee osteoarthritis showed different results.

In that trial, participants who wore stable, supportive shoes experienced greater pain relief while walking than those wearing flat footwear.

Together, the findings indicate that footwear recommendations may need to be tailored to the specific joint involved.

According to the researchers, shoes change how forces move through the legs during walking.

Biomechanical studies show that raised heels shift body weight forward and increase stress on the knee joint.

Even moderate heel heights have been linked to higher knee loading compared with walking barefoot.

Potatoes are a nutritious and versatile vegetable—whether fried or mashed, they're delicious in all forms. Those little spuds pack plenty of health benefits and are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. And while most potatoes are completely safe to eat, potatoes that have sprouted or have green spots contain a higher level of a natural toxin that might make you sick after consumption. That's why it's best to monitor the appearance of the potatoes you're storing.

Lauren Harris-Pincus, M.S., RDN, author of The Everything Easy Pre-Diabetes Cookbook and The Protein-Packed Breakfast Club, explains, "Potatoes contain two kinds of glycoalkaloids, both natural toxins, called solanine and chaconine, and while the whole potato contains these glycoalkaloids, the concentration is highest in the eyes, green skin and sprouts that form."

The green hue actually comes from chlorophyll, which isn’t toxic, but its green color is a good indication that there's excess glycoalkaloid concentration and that you'll want to toss the potato out.…

A large study shows an association between the consumption of full-fat cheese and the risk of dementia in certain groups.

For many years, low-fat foods have been promoted as the safer choice for health.

In particular, low-fat dairy products have been recommended to reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.

At the same time, interest is growing in how diet affects the brain and the risk of dementia.

Dietary Guidelines

According to international and Nordic dietary guidelines, the intake of saturated fat should be limited.

These recommendations are based on large population studies aimed at reducing the risk of, among other things, cardiovascular diseases.

Dietary research, however, is often complex. People do not eat individual foods in isolation, and diet is closely linked to education, income, and lifestyle.

A Long-Term Study

A Swedish study, published in the journal Neurology, contributes new data to the debate.

In the study, researchers followed 27,670 adults over 25 years. During this period, 3,208 participants developed dementia.

The researchers accounted for several uncertainties, including by excluding individuals who already had dementia at the start of the study and by analyzing the results without those who became ill early on.…
