Experts are warning about the risks of extreme restrictive eating after a teen developed permanent sight loss after living on a diet of chips and crisps.

Eye doctors in Bristol UK cared for the 17-year-old after his vision had deteriorated to the point of blindness.

Since leaving primary school, the teen had been eating only French fries, Pringles and white bread, as well as an occasional slice of ham or a sausage.

Tests revealed he had severe vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition damage.

Chips and Junk Food are BAD for Our EYES

Malnourished

Three years later, he was taken to the Bristol Eye Hospital because of progressive sight loss, Annals of Internal Medicine journal reports.

Dr Denize Atan, who treated him at the hospital, said: "His diet was essentially a portion of chips from the local fish and chip shop every day. He also used to snack on crisps - Pringles - and sometimes slices of white bread and occasional slices of ham, and not really any fruit and vegetables.

"He explained this as an aversion to certain textures of food that he really could not tolerate, and so chips and crisps were really the only types of food that he wanted and felt that he could eat."…

This article contains a small reference to suicide and a mental health issue.

On a summer afternoon in 2019, nurse Charlotte Lay got ready for her night shift as normal but "wasn't feeling quite right".

Within a short space of time she had decided to end her own life close to a West Yorkshire railway station.

But thanks to the kindness of the train driver who found her in crisis, she did not go through with it.

Three years later they married each other and went on to have children.

The couple credit each other with saving their lives

"I'd struggled with my mental health since my teens and I'd been in and out of the system since," Charlotte, now 33, says.

Her memories of that day five years ago are "quite blurry" but she says she remembers seeing a train pulling up on the tracks where she was.

"I remember seeing a man getting off the train and starting to panic and thinking he was going to tell me off," she recalls.

"He approached me and said 'hi, my name is Dave, are you having a bad day?'…

When María Branyas Morera died in 2024 at the age of 117, she left more than memories. She left science a gift: samples of her microbiome.

Researchers discovered her gut was as diverse as someone decades younger: rich in beneficial bacteria linked to resilience and longevity. Her daily yoghurt habit and Mediterranean diet may have helped.

While we can't all inherit "lucky genes", nurturing our microbiome may be one way to support lifelong health.

n a recent paper in Cell Reports Medicine, researchers presented what may be the most detailed scientific investigation of a supercentenarian (a person aged 110 or older). Before her death, Branyas agreed to participate in research aimed at uncovering how she lived such a long and healthy life.

When scientists compared her samples with those of people who had not reached such exceptional ages, the genetic results were unsurprising: Branyas carried protective variants that guard against common diseases.

But they also looked at something over which we have more control – the gut microbiome.

This microbiome is the vast community of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms that live in the intestines.…

Hi there Friends, I'm starting this Article because I'm tired of seeing All the Unbalanced Diets that are being Heavily Promoted and Imposed on People and many of You are caught in the middle of it all. I truly do wish some Professional People would grow up. Some of them keep telling People that "This is the Diet You (Everyone) should be On" and NO diet can Claim that. Different Diets have Certain Benefits for Different People, providing they are Not Extreme.

I'm adding this Article to my Blog in addition to the one on Keto Diet because I abhor the way several Health Professionals push Keto or Carnivore Diets….Plant DietRaw Food Diet and Vegan are also Unbalanced. Definitely. Now they're coming up with the Bible Diet (Similar to the Ancient Food Diet) and the Human Diet and who knows what else?

The Keto and Carnivore Diets seem to be promoted a heck of a Lot and in my opinion are Very Unhealthy, plus you can get very sick on those - they are basically Animal Protein and Fat, very little of anything else.…

How to Stop Mental Clutter and Fall Asleep Faster

By Mie Hermansen – MSN

Establish a Consistent Nighttime

A regular bedtime routine helps signal to your brain that it’s time to wind down. Avoid screens, bright lights, and stressful activities in the hour before bed.

Write Down Your Thoughts

If your mind is cluttered with worries, jot them down in a notebook before bedtime. This helps clear your head and prevents you from mentally going over the same concerns repeatedly.

Less Clutter - More Sleep - It Helps!

Practice Deep Breathing

Slow, deep breaths can calm your nervous system and reduce stress. Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds.

Listen to Relaxing Sounds

Soothing sounds like ocean waves, rain, or soft music can drown out mental chatter and create a more peaceful sleep environment.

Make Your Bedroom a Sleep Sanctuary

Ensure your bedroom is dark, cool, and quiet. Remove distractions and consider blackout curtains or earplugs if necessary.

Try Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Tense and relax different muscle groups one at a time, starting from your feet and moving up through your body.…

A group of birdwatchers arriving at a nature reserve on the New South Wales Mid North Coast has spotted one of the country's rarest birds before even leaving the car park.

The group had just got to Jolly Nose Mountain Bike Park in the Queens Lake Nature Reserve recently, when an eagle-eyed twitcher spotted a critically endangered regent honeyeater.

According to BirdLife Australia, there have only been five reports of the bird in the Port Macquarie area in the past decade.

Hastings Birdwatchers conservation officer Peter West was one of the few people among the group of about 20 who had seen the species before.

"We got out of the car and the first thing someone said was, 'There's a regent honeyeater,'" Mr West said.

"To be honest I didn't believe they were telling me the truth, but it was true.

"The lady who organised the morning had a plan, which went out the window, and I don't think we got very far from the car park at all."

Mr West said they saw two regent honeyeaters in the reserve south of Port Macquarie, feeding with other types of honeyeaters in the trees.…

HI FRIENDS, IT'S AFTER MIDNIGHT HERE BUT I'M SO STIRRED and INSPIRED TO START A SHORT SERIES OF ARTICLES FOR THE HEALTH OF OUR EYES and IMPROVED VISION plus SAFETY MEASURES OVER COMING WEEKS IN OCT-NOV 2025. I HOPE THIS HELPS MANY PEOPLE.

A common vitamin supplement could slow down the progression of the degenerative eye disease glaucoma, a study has found.

Vitamin B, found in whole grains, dark leafy greens, such as kale and broccoli, eggs, fish and dairy, appears to diminish the damage caused by the condition.

Glaucoma, which is suffered by nearly 700,000 people in the UK, is caused by an abnormality in the eye’s drainage system causing fluid to build up, increasing pressure on the optic nerve.

Primarily affecting older adults and those with a genetic disposition to the condition, it causes blurred vision and even blindness if left untreated.

Glaucoma is usually managed by reducing the pressure through eye drops, surgery or laser treatments.

The researchers gave supplements of vitamins B6 (Pyridoxine - avoid Synthetic OR High Doses) B9 (Folate - avoid Folic Acid) and B12 to rats and mice with Glaucoma.…
