Slow Down, You're Eating Too Fast
by Kathleen M. Zelman, MPH, RD, LD

Have you ever noticed how long it takes most thin people to eat their meals? My sister was always the last one to finish her meal, and it drove the rest of the family crazy. We were sure it was her ploy to get out of clearing the table or doing the dishes! It was not until years later that I realized her slow eating is the secret to her slim figure.

Most Westerners eat too fast, and, as a result, they take in too many calories before they realize they've eaten enough. It takes approximately 20 minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to send out signals of fullness. Leisurely eating allows ample time to trigger the signal from your brain that you are full. And feeling full translates into eating less.

Recent research presented at a meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity showed that overweight men and women took in fewer calories when they slowed their normal eating pace.…

YOU WILL FIND TWO DIFFERENT APPROACHES IN THIS ARTICLE TO HELP YOU AND I WISH YOU WELL.

This Is What Your Food Cravings Really Mean

What do your food cravings really mean? Usually, when you crave something, that is your brain signaling that it is lacking a certain nutrient, and so it will automatically gravitate to the things that are easy, un-healthy and leave us wanting more (since the foods we often gravitate to will momentarily satisfy us, however, our brains will keep on firing, and telling us to eat more – since we didn’t give it the proper nutrients – which leads us into the problem of over-eating).

Our environment is also a major trigger for food cravings. Social situations, visual cues, and smells are ways in which we delve into our deep-rooted food desires. If you want to find ways in which you can battle your cravings successfully, then you need to understand what your brain is telling you it wants. Here is a guide which can help you achieve just that!

SOMETIMES THERE IS A LITTLE UNCERTAINTY HOW TO KEEP FRUIT WELL SO IT STAYS FRESH ENOUGH DAYS BEFORE WE GO SHOPPING AGAIN. LOTS OF PEOPLE SIMPLY USE A FRUIT BOWL, PLACING ALL THE FRUIT IN THERE, HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN DISCOVERED THAT ISN’T SUCH A GOOD IDEA. WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW WHY? AND ALSO THE BEST WAY TO KEEP ALL YOUR FRUITS – WHAT CONDITIONS THEY PREFER TO BE KEPT IN? THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR THE TASTE FACTOR TOO. LET’S GO!

Why Your Fruit Bowl May Not Be Keeping Your Fruit Fresh

ABC Everyday / By Patrick Wright

If you keep all your fruit in a bowl or on the kitchen table, you're not alone.

What you might not know is the humble fruit bowl is unlikely to be the best way to store a variety of different fruits.

"Keeping all your fruit in one bowl isn't the best way to keep fruit fresh," says Thanh Truong, a fruiterer and cook based in Melbourne.

Different fruits, he says, have "competing interests".

Some fruits, like apples, are best kept cool in the fridge.

Others, like bananas, need warmer temperatures to ripen and are best stored at room temperature.

But when you keep different fruits together there can be problems, and potentially food waste.…

By Heather McKern From Diggers Garden Club Magazine Late Spring Edition 2020. Heather encourages us to increase our intake of dietary plant foods.

The old saying "variety is the spice of life" may be truer than ever. Studies into health are showing that eating at least 30 different plant foods a week  is critical to gut health and considered key to a healthy diet.

Eating a  broad variety of different plants not only increases the amount of fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants we consume. That supports our immune system and lowers our risk of diseases like certain cancers, heart disease, diabetes and mental health issues.

There are six different categories of plant foods that are counted towards our weekly total, and excluding any specific Dietary restrictions we want to include a variety from each group. They are fruit, nuts, seeds, wholegrains and legumes.

To get the most benefit. We want our plants to be as close to their original state as possible. And to be mindful of what we or others do to prepare them before they are eaten. There is little benefit if you are having a large variety of greens in salads everyday but smothering those greens in oil.…

Khorasan is a much larger grain than wheat and is higher in minerals, vitamins and fats and has up to 40% more protein.  This makes it a super energy source plus this gives it it’s unique rich and nutty flavour. Khorasan flour with its gluten ratio is ideal for any kind of baking and along with wheat, it doesn’t lose its texture with freezing. By Jesabe Warner – Naturopath

There are many products on the market that promise to relieve, control, manage or attack allergies. These products work by interfering with biochemical responses that happen in the body. One example is antihistamines.

These medications may relieve symptoms by stopping histamine from being released by certain cells in the body.

Though antihistamines are the most common drugs used to treat allergic symptoms, they are not short of side effects. A major side effect is sleepiness. Driving a car or working equipment is not suggested while under the influence of antihistamines.

Further common side effects are dryness of the mouth, nose and throat, blurry vision, faintness, loss of appetite, biliousness, upset stomach, low blood pressure, headache, anxiety, agitation, sleeplessness and loss of coordination.

With all those side effects, you may be looking for other options?

As a naturopath with 15 years of experience, I have a special interest in the treatment of allergic conditions. I love using natural remedies and food.

THIS IS THE COMMENCEMENT OF AN ARTICLE I STARTED TO WORK WITH 10-12 YEARS AGO. I HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY WITH SEVERAL WEBSITES (that is pretty time consuming) AND THIS TAKES A LOT BUT IT'S VERY INTERESTING - I'M SURE SOME OF YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME.

Health Signatures In Various Foods

This article is about a phenomena that has been referred to as the "Doctrine of Signatures" and popularized in the early 1600s and practiced previously by people who believed in a Creator God who made many foods and herbs to resemble different parts of our bodies to give us an indication that they are good for that area of our health and could bring healing to certain conditions. Doctrine is actually an Old-English word for Teaching:)

Some Christians remembered a verse in their Bible that said "I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food” when noticing the remarkable resemblance to our brain, heart, ears and eyes etc and they started adopting various foods into their diet as different foods - in this light – became part of their conversation.…
